Outdoor jackets are breathable thanks to the membrane
Functional jackets are basically divided into hardshell and softshell jackets. Hardshell jackets are raincoats. Because the multi-layer material is waterproof and windproof. Thanks to a membrane, water vapour (sweat) still gets to the outside. The men's outdoor jacket is therefore breathable. So-called 3-layer jackets are particularly stable. In these leisure jackets, the outer fabric, membrane and lining are laminated so that they form one layer. In 2-layer outdoor jackets, only the membrane and outer fabric are joined together and the lining is hung separately. That's why 2-layer jackets are not quite as stable as 3-layer outdoor raincoats.
Softshell jackets for men with high wearing comfort
Softshell jackets consist of several membrane layers, whereby the inner layers are air-permeable. Softshell jackets are particularly characterised by their high wearing comfort. These outdoor jackets hug the body closely. Although men's softshell jackets are waterproof to a certain degree, in prolonged rain the water could push through the men's jacket.
2-in-1 men's jackets for the whole year
2-in-1 jackets, also called double jackets, can be worn as a warm winter jacket as well as a rain jacket. The inner jacket, often a down jacket, provides insulation. The inner and outer jackets are connected by zips or buttons. The outer jacket of a 2-in-1 jacket is made of waterproof and breathable hardshell. Without an inner jacket, the outer part of the 2-in-1 jacket serves as a rain jacket as well as a windbreaker.
