about the author
Michael Hodgson currently lives in San Jose, California. He works as an outdoor writer/journalist and has won awards for his writing. Dr. Meeno Schrader, now a meteorologist with a doctorate, lives after a few years in various places abroad (Australia, Caribbean, USA, Switzerland) now back in his adopted hometown of Kiel.

Here he founded his own weather company, WetterWelt, at the beginning of 1999. With weather forecasts, information and data, he successfully provides international customers with detailed and accurate weather information. Not only in weather seminars, but also in articles in words and pictures for magazines, books and on television, Meeno Schrader enjoys communicating weather in a clear and understandable way.

Brief Description
When you're out in the wilderness, it's important to anticipate weather changes so you can adjust clothing and equipment, and to decide whether or not to interrupt a trip. The authors demonstrate simple techniques to help you anticipate the weather

They explain the geographical differences in weather caused by different landforms such as mountains, valleys and deserts, show you how to distinguish between cold and warm fronts, how to use cloud formations to predict approaching weather, how to use an altimeter, estimate wind speed and much more. The authors also lay out how to use signs of nature to make semi-reliable predictions, such as by watching your morning and evening skies, insect-eating birds, frost and dew. A combination of all observations will then enable you to estimate the weather in advance.
