Product description
Storing drinking water leads to bacterial contamination within a few days. Bacteria form and can harm your health. The best way to prevent this is to use UV lamps, which work by disrupting the transmission of genetic information during cell division. As a result, the bacteria die. The Reich UV-12 submersible lamp operates on this principle.
It consists of an immersion tube encased in special quartz glass and an electronic ballast that controls the power supply. Waterproof electrical connections and compact dimensions allow it to be used as an immersion lamp in fresh water tanks.
When in operation, the submersible lamp is turned on by the electronic ballast for 15 minutes every 4 hours. This short period is sufficient to disrupt the transmission of genetic information during cell division, thereby causing the bacteria to die. Thanks to its unique operating mechanism, the submersible UV lamp can also be powered by a solar panel.
Installing the Reich UV-12 submersible UV lamp is straightforward and can easily be done by the user. Simply drill a 20.5 mm diameter hole through the tank lid or tank wall and attach a threaded fitting. The submersible lamp’s power cable is fed through this fitting, and the submersible lamp itself is lowered along this cable to the bottom of the tank. The tank cap and the threaded fitting are then tightened. Now all that’s left is to connect the submersible UV lamp’s power cable and a 12-V power cable from the vehicle’s electrical system or a solar panel to the ballast—and you’re done.
The germicidal performance of the Reich UV-12 submersible lamp has been tested by the Institute of Hygiene at the University of Heidelberg.
